In America, as a culture, we view healthcare as something that is incumbent upon the individual to provide for themselves. In other countries, there is free healthcare for all citizens, and while many would argue that this is a superior way of caring for a population, we must live in the country in which we live. With that said, there are a number of ways in which to care for yourself.
The first is to of course, sign up for mandatory healthcare, which is provided by the government. Not only is there a penalty for not doing so, but depending on one’s income, there are a number of affordable options for both families and individuals. Aside from that, there are a number of other ways to ensure that trips to the hospital are less frequent and less expensive.
Part of the reason our society has such a problem with affordable healthcare is large in part to how we take care of ourselves. Many of us are underslept, overworked, and do not have enough free time to balance our lives. The best way to cope with this is by eating right and exercising regularly, even when you don’t feel as though you have time to do so.
This can be as simple as eating less meat, more vegetables, and walking for as little as half an hour a day. there is no doubt that the healthcare system is not perfect, but if we take care of our bodies, which is also incumbent upon ourselves, then we can live a longer, healthier, happier life free of financial burden.
